Lost Pair 'Stays Pat*; Soon Located

Two Portland school girls who'
~ didn't relish being “babes in the
\ • woods’* gypped the Mount Hood
national forest out of a couple of
possible victims Sunday by us' ing their wits when they found
themselves lost in the wilderness
near Frog lake.
They are Marjorie Besson, 18,
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. L. S.
Besson, and Beverly Shaw, 17,
. daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Shaw,
now safe at home none the worse
for wear. A searching party
found them early Monday morn-

.

Members of a picnic parly at
Frog Jake, the two girls left the
rest of the group about 4:30 p. m.
Sunday for what was to be a
half-hour hike. They soon dis
covered they were lost and
scoured the woods until about
7 o’clock before finding a trail
leading to Barlow camp.
Rather than risk losing their
way again, the girls stopped at
nightfall, about 8:30, and impro
vised a blanket of leaves. Mean
while, a searching party had
been organized at 8 p. m. under
direction of Protective Assistant
P. W. Dennis of Clackamas Lake
station.

The girls heard the searchers H|
about 1:30 a. m. and again
showed their Girl Scout training j ^R
had not been wasted by remain-j H
jng where they were until for- j H
' est men found them. They ! H
reached* Barlow, three miles ! H
away, about 3 o’clock.
H
“We weren’t really scared any H
time but it was kind of cold up, ■
there,” Beverly said over a cup H
of steaming coffee at her moth- ■
er's apartment, '2325 N. E. Elan- ■
ders street. “We just had on ■
shorts and halters and the leaves ■
weren't very thick.”

Both girls were graduated ^R
from St. Helen’s Hall last

:
Again the MYSTIC ORDER OF GOBLINS summons you to a meeting;
Witches, ghosts and elves and sprites send a hearty greeting.
On Hallowe’en you must appear at quarter after eight
From seers and wise magicians you will learn your future fate.

!

t

Witches cast a mystic spell to make the black cats sing,
Listen to the hooting owl—watch the pumpkins gleam!
Ghostly figures to greet you—won’t you come and take a chance?
A jolly time you’re sure to have at our annual Hallowe’en dance. '

)

October thirty-first is the date, be sure and not forget it!
If you miss our party, we shall both regret it.
It's the first one of the season and we’ll have a lot of fun!
Please answer very quickly and say that you will come.

>v(

P. S. A chaperone must bring you, as we have said before.
And must come and get you when everything is o’er.
